The world-famous Transfagarasan Road meanders its way through the southern arm of the Carpahatians Mountains, home to some of the last remaining pockets of unspoiled nature in Europe. For centuries, these rugged mountains stood as a barrier between Transylvania and Walachia, forcing travelers to bypass them through the more accessible river valleys that border them.
